Online classes Vs. the class rooom

Posted by: alliej2687 on: October 1, 2008

After having our class online last night it made me think “what if all my classes were all like this?” Sitting there in sweat pants on my couch and talking to my professor and fellow classmates online and actually being productive. I know at the end when we were asked if we enjoyed our online classroom a lot of people said it was fine but they like the classroom better. I agree but only on the premises that we only enjoy the class room better because that is what we are all used to. If from day one we spent our college experience having online classes and then one day were asked to come into a class room, we would all most likely agree that we liked online better. Learning in classrooms is a cultural habit, even though we can learn no matter where we are as long as we are getting the same information in an organized manner. Last night’s class online isn’t the best example of virtual class rooms that I have in mind due to the fact that in our groups we were all talking over each other and at times it was confusing and hard to keep up with, but if it were more organized I think it could be a very enjoyable experience. Most colleges now offer online courses that a lot of students take. Maybe online classes are the way of the future.

The one thing that will be missed if people continue to enroll more into online classes is the human interaction one gets in a class room. Going to class allows people to create relationships with other students and the professor. Creating these relationships can sometimes be key in ones success. By meeting other students it allows you another person to go to for extra help or clarification on class matters. Maybe we should just stick to going to class and leaving the internet for other things like, e-mailing late assignments or the professor. What do you guys think?

I loved having our discussion online also. I feel that online classes are great for working families because they can stay home with their family and still get an educaiton. I agree that it takes away from getting to know your classmates and professors but I feel that online classes are needed too.
